Hail To The Spirit of Liberty by Sousa for Brass Quintet
Hail To The Spirit of Liberty by John Philip Sousa Arranged for Brass Quintet by Jari Villanueva
Available at www.jvmusic.net
"It was with great pride that Sousa and his band represented the United States at the Paris Exposition of 1900. This was the first overseas tour of the band, and it was received throughout Europe with enthusiasm. The band displayed the finest American musicianship Europe had seen and helped dispel the notion that the United States was an artistic void.
A statue of George Washington was unveiled on July 2, but the highlight of the Paris engagement was the unveiling of the Lafayette Monument on July 4. It was presented on behalf of the children of the United States by Ferdinand W. Peck, commissioner general of the Paris Exposition, as President Loubet of France looked on.
The monument portrayed Lafayette on horseback offering his sword to the American cause in the Revolutionary War and was draped with a huge American flag. At the unveiling the Sousa Band gave the first performance of the march composed specifically for that moment: “Hail to the Spirit of Liberty.”
Immediately after the ceremony, the band made one of its rare appearances in a parade as it marched through the main streets of Paris. Certain sections of the march evidently were taken from an unidentified earlier operetta and revised, because in 1964 fragments which were probably meant to be discarded were found in a stack of manuscripts at the Sands Point estate.
The march was so successful that it is difficult to reconcile a story often told by Sousa’s daughter Priscilla; she saidthat her father had entered the march in a contest shortly before it was published, and that the contest had been won by an“unknown” composer whose march was promptly forgotten."

Hail To The Spirit of Liberty-John Philip Sousa-arranged by Jari Villanueva This is a new setting of Sousa's great march Hail To The Spirit of Liberty. It was done for The American Friends of Lafayette for the Bicentennial of Lafayette's visit which starts later this year. I lowered the key to make it more accessible for student groups, plus it can be played by brass ensemble only. "It was with...

Seem kind of racist
funfact: alot of the people outside the gates were stranded americans.
Jackie was a classy lady. she planned a beautiful funeral to honor her husband and the nation.
I still hate his killers!
Many of my family came home, but others weren’t so lucky. I told my mother I want to join the Air Force, I’m not even 18 and she already begged for me not to go and I said “I have just as a high chance of dying not in the military than in it.” Nothing worked so I just had to move on. I totally understand the mother’s reaction to her own son dying, I’d be both angered and devastated if I had my own kid who died in war, and I know the possibilities.
I could never understand why John Jr. Is wearing a dress
No matter the branch, no matter the rank. Arlington has it all. Aim high brother!

then 20 years later she had them play our national anthem
A war was fought between these 2 nations and America was created by separating from the UK, and now they are playing our national anthem.

You can tell he loved his Irish heritage like I do. And we’re both from New England. One of my favorites.
We may make fun of eachother sometimes, but we are allies that support eachother. I appreciate this.
I don’t care that they missed a verse I’m just so damn grateful that they broke a 300+ year tradition for us in our worst time. Long live the American Government and the British Royal Family
Erghhh Andrew
Wow
All this was happening and Hoover was smiling ear to ear

Excellent video showing how hard the job of a causality officer is and what they go through and God bless the people that do those jobs because I for one could not handle that job .
An act of the highest class and dignity. Probably the only applause heard in the western world that day too.
There's got to be more footage of this event somewhere showing all the political participants including Robert Lincoln!! What a shame they didn't realize the importance of this event and who was there!! Film quality not good either......Shame!
Back then we all said the Pledge of Allegiance and My Country Tis of Thee. I was in the first grade. We patriotic little kids. I'll never forget this tragic day as I cried when I seen the look on my moms face and she cried. Black and Whites and people of all races lived JFK. ❤🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Do you have the sheet music for Taps? If so could you message it to me? I’ve not learned anything on the bagpipes as of yet. But as a veteran I’d like to learn taps on it so maybe one day I can start playing it at fallen brothers and sisters funerals.
❤
Watching those idiots running around behind the bugler playing Taps. I might have stopped playing and wailed on them with the bugle.

that movie is bullshit and america know it, also the lie of "day of infamie", -the war gainst japan was wanted like the war against russia today...people wake up......................................
Thinking of the Anniversary of D-Day and this was stuck in my head as well as Taps. No longer on active Duty. But this is still a part of great memories! I remember wherever we were when the Call to Color was play across whichever base or station I was at. Everything Stopped. Everyone faced the direction of the flag. Most times the flag was out of sight. If in uniform a salute. If the National Athem was played and not in uniform then the traditional hand over the Heart. I remember the first time I was off base at Osan AFB in Korea even though not in Uniform everyone turned towards the base and put our hands over our hearts as the US National Anthem was played and continued until the Korean National Anthem was played. Then the triplet for the end of Color Of Course the ROK soldiers stood at attention. It seems like there was a rivalry at who could stand straightesr and motionless between the ROKs and the US. Especially the US Marines! So sad that the latest generations of civilians do not seem to have the same level of respect, pride, reverence and Patriotism as the old guard. But in many ways this is our own fault. It is the duty of every generation to pass this down. Why didn't our Children pass this down to their children and our grandchildren?
you also play the trumpet very well
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
And that's why we have the special friendship betwixt us!
Beautiful arrangement !
